Your speakers have software?
Are they USB or something?

Or - are you mistaken and what you updated was your audio/sound
device drivers?

Find out what type of sound card you have and download the latest
drivers straight from the manufacturer of the device - and do not
get drivers for hardware from Microsoft unless it happens to be a
Microsoft hardware device.

that

Please read what I wrote to the last person...

"Speakers" are dumb pieces of hardware. Forget about computers and such -
think about your stereo speakers (actually connected to a real stereo/radio)
and your headphones. They do not require software to work - because they
truly are just mechanical devices. You plug them in, they do their job.

In your computer - the speakers/headphones still do the same thing.
However - just like for your home stereo/surround sound system for your
TV/whatever - you have to make sure to plug them into the correct port.
Your computer is unique in my mind - as I see hundreds of computers each
day. I could *assume* you plug your speakers into the light-green 8mm
speaker oputput port - but... it could be orange or black...

Now - if your sound card hardware device in your computer does not have
drivers - the software cannot communicate with the hardware in order to send
the sound it produces (the software) to the hardware - so no sound is
played.
