You cannot manually start the Automatic Updates service and you receive an "Error 1058" error message on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005:

Hi, I am running Windows XP Media Center edition, version:2002 SP3. Ever
since I downloaded SP3 to this computer, I haven't been able to download any
updates from microsoft. I've tried starting it through the Services and
changing the startup type and all, but every time I change it to automatic
or manual, it reverts back to disabled when I click apply, then close it
out and bring it back up. When I try to press the start button it gives:
Could not start the Automatic updates service on local computer. Error
1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
