Good news Shenan. I did the random defrag, which when i checked earlier
today wasn't required, but when i did an analyze after these messages, a
defrag was required so once done, i got a step further on the update page. I
got a an error 0x80072EE2 on the update page and implemented a suggested fix,
namely i added the secure update website to my trusted websites (as the
suggestion with the firewall/proxy was not relevant) and hey presto, i have
downloaded another seven updates!

I forgot to say, ignore the title of the knowledge base article... Just
perform both of the methods. You have no idea (but could) how many people
have reported the same issue and solved the same issue using that web link I
gave you and usually - just method 1.
