Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hey Thanks for all of your help! Really, all of those links you gave me will
help me for more than just this. I finally called Dell, I wasn't sure if
they would help since it was a Microsoft problem, but they did! For anyone
else that needs this download here is the link to it. My sound works just
great after that! Thanks for all of your help!! Have a Terrific Day!

Hello!

Thanks for the fast reply. I have checked for updates, but I am not sure
if
I am doing it "manually". If I go to Microsoft's web site, it tells me to
go back and: "Click the Start button, click All Programs, and then click
Windows Update." Which is the only way I know how. I have been checking
everyday for something to fix it. You see I have Windows Vista Ultimate,
and that it the only way I know to check for updates. I guess I should
have mentioned my operating system and a few other specs about my laptop
just in case it would help. Here are some specs of my system:

Model:...............................Dell XPS 2010
Operating System:............Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1
Processor:.........................Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 (2.33GHz /
667MHz
/ 4MA)
Memory:...........................4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2
Dimms)
Hard Drive:.......................RAID Protection 250BG (2x250GB) 7200RPM
Internal Optical Drive:......Slot Load Blu-ray Disc Drive (BD/DVD/CD
burner
with BD write capability)
Video Card:......................256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1800
Wireless Cards:................Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N
Sound Options:................Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software
Edition
LCD Panel:......................20.1 inch WSXGA+ Wide Screen with TrueLife
and Integrated Web Cam

If you can think of anything else, please let me know. Oh yeah, I also
have
all of the Disks that came with my system, but I have no clue which one
might have the info I need or how to use it. I tried putting a couple in
and couldn't make sense of it.

Thanks again!

Hi Newbie Here:

OK, I have had the same problem that I have read about in here and many
other places too. Some have answers, but they are not to my operating
system nor brand of Laptop. I bought a Dell XPS M2010 last month and
after
windows made the update:

"IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC"

on my laptop, and now I have NO sound (but I guess I'm not alone). I
tried
rolling back the driver in the device manager, no luck. I tried booting
my
laptop to the last known good configuration, no luck. I've tried
inserting
a couple of CDs that came with my PC, but once they were open, I didn't
understand what was what so I didn't mess with a thing. Has Any body
come
up with a solution fro an XPS Dell that is easy for a novice to fix?

PS I HAVE learned from reading these posts to NEVER update drivers from
Windows updates, thanks for teaching me that (it's a hard lesson to
learn).

Thanks in advanced!
