Re: Standalone Version of SP3 stalls/freezes when looking at Prope

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Ira, unblock the file and try the scan.

So youre saying that if I unblock it after right-clicking, it should install properly even if I'm using a home PC.

My RAM is limited to 640MB, but my disk space more meets the over-all requirements put forth in that Kb article. I have ~60Gigs.

The ongoing spinning of the horglass and the failure of the AV to complete the scan on that file, would that have been due to not having unblocked the security under the General tab?

Thanks.

Right click on the file, under General tab - note you have the option to
*unblock* under Security.

Hi there.

When i download the 316MB standlone version of SP3:

WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe

from the site:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en

and then look at Properties after right-clicking on the download, it takes very long to get that info and the hourglass. Then there's also a warning on the properties that the "file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect your computer"" Gives you option to: Unblock

I try to scan the downloaded file via AV and the scan goes on for 2 files and never completes.

I have only 640MB RAM on my PC and ~60 Gig space. I don't have a CD-R/W burner

1) I want to be sure its OK to install SP3 from such an installation file, given the observations above.

2) Should i press on that option on Properties-->General bottom of page---->Security to : Unblock ?.
