Re: IDT Audio IDT High Definition Audio CODEC took out my audio

I've had exactly the same problem today. I spent a long time to find a
solution. This is an incredible bug !!! Now I have no more esitations : my
next computer will be an Apple !
Thank You Microsoft !

I'll add a follow up to this and my now solved problem.

After I reverted to an earlier 'restore' I tried to recreate this same
problem by going into Device Manager and update my Sigma Tel High Definition
Audio CODEC. After updating the driver I of course had the problem I wrote
here about. So instead of using System Restore, I used Roll Back Driver in
Device Manager (Under Sound, video and games). To my surprise that didn't
solve my problem and I was still left with no Audio Playback devices.

I was forced again to use System Restore. I'm not a Windows wiz though I've
been using Windows for about 15 years. Had this problem happened to my wife
(and countless others) a lot of time would have been wasted while they would
have tried to figure out how to solve this. A problem like this should not
have occured _and_ rolling back the driver using that option in Device
Manager should have worked _but_ it didn't.

Just passing this on ... perhaps someone else can benefit from the time I
spent on this. DH

You should ALWAYS go the the manufacturer's site
for drivers. MS is clueless about other mgfrs hardware drivers

I would argue that many manufacturers are clueless about writing drivers
for MS operating systems, and hence the MS-written drivers (when they
exist, typically only for older components) are likely to be preferable.
