Re: After Vista SP1 IE7 and sidebar problems

Robert,

I submitted a support request and spent about 2 hours watching the support
tech poke around on my machine. He tried re-installing Java runtime and
Flash. He seems to have morphed the problem statement into "can't display
images in IE" I keept tell him that is just part of the problem. IE is not
responding to events that are handled by javascript and the side bar is not
showing the gadgets correctly.

I also told the support tech that I found the problem statement on this
expert exchange web site but I don't have access. He seemed to ignore it and
in my opinion wasted much of the 2 hours of troubleshooting time. Here is
the link:

http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Windows/Windows_Vista/Q_23090261.html

I did have the java runtime and SDK installed since I am a developer. As I
said the support tech did reinstall it but it did not work.

After 2 hours I had to cut the session short. He said he would call me back
and did last night but he called my work number. I will get back in touch
with him by email. I don't know what that will do though since his next
step was to create a new profile to see if the problem is in my profile.

I have the same problem. I submitted a support request and was told that they
had never heard of this problem, so they were going to close the ticket and
if anyone else ever reported the problem they would let me know if they found
a solution.

Hopefully someone somewhere will figure out what the problem is.

Dan - did you happen to have the Java runtime from SUN installed when you
ran the Vista SP1 update? That's the only thing that I had installed that I
could think of that might be causing the problem. I uninstalled it and tried
installing the IE8 beta, but that didn't help.

I installed SP1 from the Windows update list. The installation finished
without errors but now IE7 is acting weird. It doesn't seem to be
displaying graphics correctly or at all and any items on a page that run
javascript do not work. Also, the sidebar does not display gadget
graphics
properly and if they are dragged off the sidebar they still do not
display
correctly.

Anybody know what is going on?
