Re: Sound Device

Hi there,

It sounds like a driver update has occured which messed up the sound
settings.

Hopefully you did not take any non MS driver(s) from windows update?

Never take drivers from windows update unless they are intended for
Microsoft hardware.

If an updated driver is needed because the hardware does not work proper go
to the manufacturers website to look for an updated driver.

If it ain't broke: do not try to"FIX" it.

If you did take the optional drivers from windows update try booting last
known good configuration, rolling back on the driver or use system restore
in safe mode prior to a date of the problem or restore from the full system
backup you hopefully made.

Assuming you are using Windows XP: here you can see how to roll back on a
device driver:

You can disable the update in question appearing when automatic updates is
set by goingto the windows update website and unmark (hide) driver in
question.

Hello Dave,

I'm having the same problem as well, can you help? I have Windows VISTA
but
changed to XP, however, my sound, camera, and wireless adapter do not work
now. Oh, I did get the camera working through updates.

I keep getting this message. Everything was fine but then I started
getting it.
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem
with
your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your
computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be
functioning properly."

Can anyone help?
