Your Microsoft-speak is of no help in solving this problem. I've been on
with both Dell and Microsoft today for a total of 2 hours and
NONE of the techs tried searching for the error message;
Unfortunately diagnosis is always at least a second stage of any problem
resolution attempt by Microsoft Support.
So, did *you* try searching for some context for your error code? ; )
FWIW the category that this code probably falls in is most often seen as
related to HTTP response codes. For example, 80190193 is an indication of an HTTP
403 response. In that case you might get some clues by tracing any network activity
during your install attempt. I would use netcap instead of Fiddler2 though because I don't think that this is likely to be an HTTP response
code. And if you can't find enough clues by looking for context for that hex
value in the files that the update created or changed I would try
reinstalling with verbose logging enabled and supplementing that with ProcMon tracing all file and registry
accesses. Good luck

which you can find all over the
internet forums, with variations of the same problem. I'm using Vista Home
Premium, installed by Dell and fully updated, on an Inspiron 1720
notebook. Twice, I allowed Windows Update to lead me down the garden path; then MS,
then Dell tried to help with the SP1 install. Each time the reboot stuck
on the error message: !! 0xc0190036 !! 5717/75080 (mshwdeu.dll). The last
time there was a slightly different numerical value in the middle
(5711/74986) but the same dll.
After four system restores, my research online leads me to believe that
the Tablet PC feature of Vista somehow interferes with the SP1 install.
Turns out this dll is a GERMAN HANDWRITING RECOGNITION file!!! Now, while
I love the German language, I don't have a Tablet PC, and I am very
unlikely to use a handwriting recognition feature. Yikes.
SO, I have disabled the features of Tablet PC that Vista will allow, but I
am afraid to try the SP1 install again, as it takes about an hour to for
the install, reboot, hang, and system restore. I've followed all the
recommendations, read the Knowledge Base articles and updated before the
SP1 install; even defragged the drives, which took a few hours.
Now, if someone from Microsoft will actually try to explain how to fix
this feature in simple, direct terms, that would be really nice.
Thanks! DTD

I got a problem when the system is restarting after installation of
SP1, the system starts to display a list of files (aprently being
updated) when it stops on a afile and displays the next message
!!0xc0190036!! 5886/69192 (mshwcht.dll)
After that it doesn't show progress, so I restart the system and use a
restoration point because is the only way to start the system; so, it
completes the restoration and finally i can access the system again,
and Windows Update offer me the SP 1 and every time i do this it keeps
happening the same over and over,
I need to know if it's problem of the update or how can i solve this
problem.
