RE: updates fail repeatedly- Error Code: 0x80246002

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Hi,

I did have last days also same problem with that code "Error Code:
0x80246002".
First I did a complete installation of XP SP2, after I did install Office
2007 & Visual Studio.NEt. While I was updating the SP1 from Office 2007 &
Visual studio could not be updated from the internet. The automatic
downloader from microsoft did download them, but they could not be installed
succesfull, everytime that Error Code: 0x80246002.
After reading a lot here , they were talking about firewall, virusscan
etc... but I did had not installed them then yet!
Later I did install the trend micro 2008 anti-virus but I still did had the
same problems.... Windows firewall etc... were allready be disabled.
What I could figger out, is that it seems that even if you download the
files manualy you have troubles the files, it's just like they are
corrupted...when downloading...

The problem did let me think on network settings.... I was with this
computer dhcp connected with mine firewall router & then to internet... So I
did change the settings to static IP.

When I did update, everything was working, no errors annymore, everything
was going smoothly....

It seems it looks like a problem with dhcp connection....why and how, don't
ask me...

If you are newbie and don't now how to get your dhcp adress, you can ask it
up like those steps below: (there are other ways also....)
1. Start =>Run => cmd (ENTER)
2. cd\ (ENTER)
3. ipconfig/all

==>Write on a paper the "IP-ADRES" - "SUBNETMASK" - "STANDARD GATEWAY"
When you did notify correctly them to a paper, go back to the graphical
interface from Windows XP. Then make your connection static with the hand of
what you did notify on paper.

1. START => MINE NETWORK LOCATIONS => Choose "SHOW NETWORKCONNECTIONS"
2. 1 click with the mouse on your current Icon from network access. (comes
blue)
3. Right mouse button and choose "SETTINGS"
4. Then go to "INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP-IP)" (double mouse click)
5. Activate button Followed IP - adress using:
Type here exactly the same as you did notify on the paper.
Example:
--------------
IP: 192.168.1.13
Submaks: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

6. Then I did also put manualy mine DNS server adress:

DNS 1: 192.168.1.1 (for home user you may take the same as gateway
adress) => this DNS1 adress here used belongs to mine example, it should
always the same as your Gateway adress if you are home user (NOT SERVERS!!!)
DNS 2: You don't need to type nothing......

Save this settings....and retry your updates..... This was working fine for
me.... I hope for you guys also....you can always give it a shot...

Best Regards... Sorry for mine bad english...

You've been part of the F'D MS update program. We've been living it for
weeks - and we're MS registered partners...

Good Luck to you!

We're migrating all we can to Ubuntu since their support is extraordinary...
.. that pains us to no end since we've been part of the Microsoft bandwagon
for years....
