Re: Vista constantly rebooting after this week's updates - "Config

My computer is not an Acer, its a home made PC I built myself.
My computer has been up2date since I installed Vista (ultimate), and the
problem must have come from one of the latest updates, I only remember one of
the updates in the list before it rebooted, it was the one with the
"addresses a vulnerability in Windows Vista" text.

Are all 3 affected systems Acer laptops ?

STRONGLY suggest that you all phone this in to Microsoft's PSS. Tell
them ***specifically*** that this was caused by a Security update.
Perhaps it was

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-004 – Important
Vulnerability in Windows TCP/IP Could Allow Denial of Service (946456)

that caused this issue. Or it could have been

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-007 – Critical
Vulnerability in WebDAV Mini-Redirector Could Allow Remote Code
Execution (946026)

There is no-charge support for issues with Security updates:

Support
• Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from Microsoft Product Support
Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no charge for support calls that are associated with
security updates.
• International customers can receive support from their local Microsoft subsidiaries. There is no
charge for support that is associated with security updates. For more information about how to
contact Microsoft for support issues, visit the International Support Web site.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=21155

Make them troubleshoot just which update is causing the rebooting. After
all, it was their update
that caused this issue <w>

Same here, tried all the options from the "safe boot" options. Cant get out
of the cycle. And its also at the stage 3 of 3 im hanging at. Computer was
just fine untill the update ran and did an automated reboot to install the
changes :(

I am having the exact same problem. I can't even get into Vista to try to
change directories as has been suggested elsewhere in this forum. I have
tried booting in safe mode and jumping back to system save point. Neither
work (as I still get the step 3 of 3 and then another reboot). I really
don't want to have to reinstall vista. Help please!

My son (away at university) has just installed this week's Microsoft updates
and now is unable to get his laptop re-started (it's an Acer Aspire 5633
about a year old).

It says "Configuring Updates. Stage 3 of 3 0% Complete.
Then it says "Shutting Down" and restarts the whole cycle. This goes on and
on....

He has tried to get it into Safe Mode but it won't, just goes back into the
cycle described above.

I've searched on Google and come up with only one hit - that described
identical symptoms and was posted in a blog about three hours ago. There
are some references to the same message related to SP1 installation but my
son is just using the standard Microsoft Update service - not gone near SP1.

Is anyone else getting this symptom and has anyone any ideas how to get out
of it without wiping the whole machine?

Many thanks for any help.
