Re: update installation failure of the .net 2.0 update

Different hoops -

Error 0x8020000E is: BG_E_VOLUME_CHANGED

"The destination volume has changed. If the disk is removable, it might have
been replaced with a different disk. Reinsert the original disk and resume
the
job."

Try renaming/deleting the SoftwareDistribution folder you but you will lose
your WU History listing (not important). If everything is working okay again
you can delete the renamed SoftwareDistribution folder.

Renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder: a. Click Start, click Run, type
%systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.

Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

Or try manually installing the updates.

IBM T30 system, XP SP2, fails the .net 2 and .net 3 updates with Error Code:

Is this the same resolve or am I misplaced (shall I jump the hoops same as
directed here)?

*IF this is Windows XP*, then download the automated removal tool:
http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools/dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip

Now read this:
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/05/30/611355.aspx

Run the Removal tool and have it remove .NET Framework 2.0 ONLY.
If you get an error message that it could not be removed, leave the tool
open and restart the system.

Download and save .NET Framework 2.0:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en

Same for .NET Framework 2.0 SP1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=79bc3b77-e02c-4ad3-aacf-a7633f706ba5&DisplayLang=en

When the downloads are complete close the browsers and any other open
programs.

*** IF the ATI Catalyst Control Center is installed, close it. ***
Right click the icon and choose Exit or Close.
You will also need to disable it from running when the system is
restarted. Don't recall if it runs a Service, but you can check in the
Services console to see if it does -
Start > Run > type in

service.msc
Click OK or press Enter

Look for anything ATI in the right frame. IF it exists there, and I mean
the *ATI Catalyst Control Center ONLY*, double click it and set it to
Disabled next to Startup type. Click Apply, OK.Close the Services console.
Back to Start > Run > type in

msconfig
Click OK or press Enter
Click the Startup tab
Look for the ATI Catalyst Control Center under Startup Item.
If there, UNcheck the box next to it.
Click Apply, Close.
Click NO the prompt to restart now.

Create a folder on the root drive [the drive where WINDOWS is installed
to], usually, the C:\ drive. Name it DotNet.
Move both downloaded files to that folder.
Now install .NET Framework 2.0 [ dotnetfx.exe ]
Restart if prompted to.
Now install .NET Framework 2.1 [ NetFx20SP1_x86.exe ]
Restart if prompted to.

Visit Windows Update via the Start Menu link or open IE and click Tools,
Windows Update. When the initial scan is complete click the Custom scan
button.
IF any updates are offered for .NET Framework 2.0, write them down in
the order they are listed.
Then head over to the MS Download Center once more and download and save
them.
Move them to the DotNet folder and install them from there *in the order
they were listed*, restarting the system when prompted to.

Did that get it/them installed ?

NOTE: Remember to reenable the ATI Catalyst Control Center afterwards,
if you so desire. If you don't, suggest you uninstall this 'feature'.
ALSO, if any Intuit product is installed [Quicken, Quickbooks, etc] you
may received an error message after the removal of .NET 2 and subsequent
reboot.
That's because the software can not run without it being installed.
Just close the error window and get .NET 2 installed to eliminate this
error.

I recieved a 1603 error code , as listed in computer managrment event viewer .
I also went to add and remove programs, and tried both a repair install and
a uninstall. Neither worked. I recieved a pop up window, that said the patch
package could not be opened.
For now, I'll try some of the links you listed in your reply.
