Thanksk for the reply. However, on looking closer (like I should have done
before I posted) I found that there were really only two updates listed as
"failed". All but one on the list were log entries in my update history of
duplicate but failed attempts to install KB934238 (XPS Documant writer
update). The other was a failed visio SP3 update.
I downloaded the Vision SP3 updtate but it would not install stating that it
was already installed. So I gues I'll just ignore that one since you must
remove Visio altogether to reinstall SP3. (Sidenote: I installed Visio 2003
AFTER installing Office 2007. I worried that there were common components
that would stomp on each other. Perhaps this is realted to the "failure" of
the update?)
Anyway, I then went to the update catalog to download KB934238. And I may
have found a clue to the problem. There are not one but TWO downloads in the
update catalog referring to exactly the same update (KB934238). They both
have the same date and description, point to the same reference artical but
one is 3.6mb and the other is 14.3mb! Which one to download??
Since I can't tell which to download, it's reasonable to think that
automatic updates may not be able to tell either, and thus posts a failed
update attempt.
I think I will call Microsoft and let them know about this connundrum!

I am running XP with Office 2007 (except for Visio 2003 and Access runtime
2000).
Wish list: If Microsoft Update were a little smarter, it would let me
manage updates wth far more power. I want to add and delete updates of my
choice, delete failed updates with a click of a checkbox, right click an
update to see properties, file name, reset resigtry, unistall, reinstall,
etc, etc.....
