1. Uninstall your ISP-supplied Norton application via Add/Remove Programs.

2. Enable the Windows Firewall.

3. Run this removal tool: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2007080716174339?Open&docid=2005033108162039&nsf=tsgeninfo.nsf&view=docid

4. Download/install another anti-virus application of your choosing (but nothing by Norton or McAfee). If cost is a factor, here are two free ones:

Avira AntiVir

Avast4

I no longer recommend AVG Anti-Virus, Free or Pro.

Your anti-virus application should be configured to seek and install updates automatically, daily, at a time when the machine is usually running and connected to the internet. It should also be configured to run a full system scan a few minutes after seeking/installing updates, also daily. Anything less is simply insufficient these days.

I am running an HP pavilion a710n on XP home, version 2002, service pack 2.
I keep going back Symantec and microsoft trying to get those patches
installed, but to no avail - also I would really appreciate trying to get
the ausuclt errors to go away.

I did try some advice to remove some dll's from the windows 32 directory,
but some of the files it told me to remove I didn't even have, so haven't
been successful there.
