Re: W2K Downloads updates but the update Installation not installe

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Thanks for the info, Dave. Let's *hope* that anyone who does a clean reinstallation of Win2K sees this and avoids the same issue by installing SP4, then the updates, and then the Rollup.

There was no other software loaded in both cases. I ran fdisk, formatted the drive and ran w2k winnt.exe from the i386 folder.

Anytime I can help someone else it's a good thing :-)

Yes I did install SP4 before running an update.. I did not install the Roll up in the second install until I was sure the Update would work.

During the first install of 2000, I did SP4 then the Rollup then I tried the update and it failed. I am assuming that I had a corrupted install the first time.

You're welcome, Dave. Did you install SP4 again prior to attempting to update ?

Thanks for the response. Other things were not working quite right, so I reinstalled windows 2000.

All is well

Try registering wups2.dll from a Command Prompt, Dave.

cmd.exe
Click OK or press Enter

At the prompt, type in these commands pressing Enter after each one

net stop wuauserv
regsvr32 wups2.dll
exit

Restart the system and see if the updates install now.

I lost a hard drive with the OS on it, so I had to reinstall W2K Pro. I installed the SP4 Pack before running update to save time.

When I run Update, it recognizes the updates, downloads them but then reports the installation failed without any error message.

I was able to identify several updates that were needed like installer 3.1. I was able to locate it on the Microsoft site, download and install it manually. But then when I run Update again, it moves to the next Update, downloads it and the install fails.

Can anyone help with a fix?

I am using v6 of the Update Program.

Thanks
Dave
