RE: KB942615 will not install; error code 80073712

I am in EXACTLY the same situation. EXACTLY the same error code and EXACTLY
the same messages in the WinUpdate log file. (Except I have Vista Home
Premium, not Vista Ultimate.)

There was a prior update that gave me this error code, and I was told to
take ownership of and delete the Pending.XML file in the \Windows\winsxs
folder (which I did), and then download Windows Update Agent 3.0 and install
it. I downloded the Windows Update Agent, but it wouldn't install. Kept
telling me "no install is necessary, because WUA is already installed." So,
I was never able to fix the previous update that gave me this exact same
problem. Now this new update is doing exactly the same thing.

WHAT'S GOING ON HERE! Let's get this fixed, shall we?! Is there a way to
force the WUA3.0 to re-install itself?
