Re: Failed Updates

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I also received an error while doing windows update. It is the same error
that Taylor describes in #3 below regarding ADS Technologies - Sound - ADS
Instant HDTV PCI. You advised Taylor to the manuafacturers website to get
the driver. So I did. I went to ADS Technologies and looked up the driver
for this particular piece of hardware and here is what they have posted on
their website for it in a Windows Vista OS: <quote>ADS Tech does not directly
distribute Windows Vista drivers for this device. This is because the drivers
were developed by Microsoft and Philips. The drivers for this HDTV card are
built directly into the Windows Vista operating system.

In Windows Vista x86 and x64, you need only physically install the card. The
operating system will install its own driver automatically when the new
hardware is detected. </quote>.

So now I am back to Microsoft and they have nothing for this problem. What
do I do now ? By the way, my graphics quit working after I purchased a full
license for Microsoft Office on this Vista OS. The computer came with a
trial version and I decided to purchase the license. I got the product key
and entered it. The configuration manager ran. I went to use the office
products and verified that the trial version was now the full version. I was
happy. But a day or two later when I went to play solitaire I get the
message about 'hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by
the video card driver. I checked the acceleration indicator and it was on
'full'. I followed lots of other advice found in 'help and support'
including the microsoft update as mentioned above. Please help. Thank you.

I'm not sure if anyone here can answer the Nvidia or the Sound
ones, but If anyone could point me into the right direction to get
help on any of these I'd really appreciate it.

1) Download and install all HARDWARE drivers such as this from the hardware
manufacturer web page - and if everything is working as you expect - there
is no real need to upgrade your hardware drivers in the first place.

2) Windows Defender... I recommend uninstalling it. If you feel that is
your antispyware solution of choice - reboot and install it again from a
fresh download and see if that fixes your issues with it.

3) Another hardware driver - get those straight from the manufacturer's
support web pages - after all - Microsoft did not create the hardware or the
driver - best to get the latest from those who made both if you feel you
need them.

4) Same as 1,3...

5) Same as 1,3,4...
