From the problem description, I understand that KB936181 XML core Services
4.0 Service Pack 2 cannot be installed properly on the computer. Please feel

This issue can cause by the related components were corrupted.

Step 1: Download Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp utility

1. Visit:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D5E1BD/msicuu2.exe
2. Save the file to your Desktop
3. Please double click the file msicuu2.exe on the Desktop to install this
tool on your computer.


Step 2: Remove MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2

1. Click Start -> (All) Programs->Windows Installer Clean Up.
2. Please locate any MSXML software and remove it.

After that, please perform the following suggestions to reinstall MSXML 4.0
SP2 and its update.


Step 3: Reinstall MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2

1. Please refer to the following link to download MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2

2. When the File Download window appears, please click the Save button, and
follow the directions to save it to the Desktop.
3. After downloading this file, please double-click the "msxml.msi" file on

After reinstalling MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2, please move on to step 2 to
install the update KB936181.

Step 4: Reinstall MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (KB936181)

1. Please download the update from the following link:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/4/2/9422e6b6-08ee-49cb-9f05-6c6ee755389e/msxml4-KB936181-enu.exe

2. When the File Download window appears, please click the Save button, and
follow the directions to save it to the Desktop.
3. After downloading this file, please double-click the "
msxml4-KB936181-enu.exe" file on the Desktop. Then the installation will be
performed automatically.
4. After finishing the above steps, please check the result on the Windows
Update website again.

Please perform the above suggestions and let me know the result. However, if

Same problem here. I don't know if it is installed or not - one place it
shows it is installed a dozen times!! Tried to look in Microsoft website for
a solution and it showed several which are too complicated for me to attempt
so until Microsoft puts out a download to correct the problem, the darn thing
can just sit there!!!
