Microsoft update

I presume there's a difference between Windows Update and Microsoft Update
in that Microsoft Update checks for updates to MS software 'other than' the
OS.
I went to Microsoft Update (never been there before tonight) and it lists
one High- priority update.....Security update for CAPICOM
(KB931906).......but Windows Update lists no High-priorities. I've not
installed it yet.
The Microsoft Update page seemed to be setting itself up to automatically
notify me when updates are available (same as Windows Update does) but I'm
not sure this is true.
Is Microsoft Update something everyone should be checking each month same as
Windows update?
.
