0x8024402C Winhttp SendRequest/ReceiveResponse failed with 0x2ee7 error. Either the proxy server or target server name can not be resolved. Corresponding to ERROR_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED. Stop/Restart service or reboot the machine if you see this error frequently.

0x80072EE7 The server name could not be resolved.

You may receive an "Error 0x80072EE2," "Error 0x80072EE7," "Error 0x80072EFD," "Error 0x80072F76," or "Error 0x80072F78" error message when you try to use the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site

First try - Step 6: Remove the proxy server entry from the WinHTTP proxy configuration
Then go back and start with Step 1
IF, after following all the steps the same error codes show up in the WindowsUpdate.log, please see this:

Under " On This Page ", click the 'How to download and install the update package that includes BITS 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 for Windows 2000'

Then read: 'How to verify that the update package that includes BITS 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 is installed for Windows 2000'

Back to Start > Run > type in

Click OK or press Enter

Delete ALL of the subfolders of SoftwareDistribution

Download and SAVE:

Windows Update Agent 3.0 [x86-32bit]

After the downloads complete close the browser and any other open programs
Install WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe
Now install Windows2000-KB927891-x86-ENU.EXE
Restart the system

IF the Automatic Updates service is set to Automatic then it will restart upon rebooting

Go back to Start > Run > type in

wuauclt /detectnow
Click OK or press Enter
The updates *should* come down now
