Re: Automatic Updates Service

Just received an e-mail from Microsoft customer service saying they received
my incident report and I should get a response in 24 hrs. Its a wait game .
I will wait since I don't know enough to do what you experts are doing

Start a free Windows Update support incident request:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527

Customers in the U.S. and Canada can receive technical support from
Microsoft Product Support Services at 1-866-PCSAFETY. There is no-charge
for support calls that are associated with security updates. When you
call, clearly state that your problem is related to a Security Update
and
cite the update's KB number (e.g., KB931678).

In other countries, see http://support.microsoft.com/security >
"No-Charge
Support...for virus and other security-related" issues in right-hand
menu
for localized contact information.

For more information about how to contact Microsoft for support issues,
visit the International Support Web site:

When attempting to start the Automatic Updates Service we get an
'Access
Denied' error. This is causing issues with ITMU and the Updates Tool
fails
with an 11204 error.

There are a number of articles on the net that we have tried, e.g.
resetting
MS Updates defualt registry security, service security, re-installing
WUA20
(/wuforce).

To 'manually' correct the issue we can edit the local GPO and allow
access
to the Microsoft Updates site and when contacting the site it knows
that
the
software is not install (or that there is a problem) and installs the
WU
software. Exiting the site and restarting the Automatic Updates
service
works again (in 95% of the instances) and the ITMU package is now able
to
process the updates and install the patches. Strangely the
WindowsUpdateAgent20-x86.exe thinks that the software is already
installed
and why we tried the /wuforce to reinstall.

This is affecting only 800-900 machines out of 22k nationally, but that
number is a lot to have to go touch.

Does anybody have any ideas out there or encountered the same of
similar
issues?
