OK - now try downloading and running Dial-a-Fix from
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix
Tried that and no joy unfortunately, Have you any other suggestions?
You are still getting "Files required to use Windows Update are no longer
registered or installed
on your computer."??
Maybe you should try a complete re-installation of the latest version of the
Windows Update client agent:
For 32-bit systems, download and save to hard disk, and then install:
<http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe>
If this produces an error message about "Update agent already
installed", then execute the installer again manually, with parameter
/wuforce as in (at a comand prompt window):
WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce
Then visit Microsoft Update again, and report back whether your problem is
fixed.
If it still says that some files are missing, it might be worth doing a
complete check of your Windows installation: open a command prompt window
and type
sfc /scannow
and have your original XP installation CD in the CD drive.
