When I do my windows updates some months the when notified about the
updates I tell it to download when I am done with the machine for the
night. Many times it downloads just find and then I install. However
other times when I tell it to download it starts the download gets
just a couple of % done then the shield goes away.
This is by design. If the udate server(s) at Microsoft are too busy, they
tell Automatic Update clients to stop downloading and try again later. When
this happens to you, the yellow shield disappears.
Just let this happen and don't worry about it. Your PC will automatically
try the download again in the background the next day.
If the Automatic Update download hasn't completed in about a week, then that
is the time to intervene and go to the web site.
