Sam,
Delete the Temporary Internet Files by going to Internet Options in the Conrtol Panel. On the first page, General, click the Delete Files button under Temporary Internet Files. Put a check in the box next to 'Delete all offline content'. Click OK. Click OK once more.
Next, go to Star > Run > type in
net stop wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter
Navigate to the WINDOWS\Software Distribution folder
Delete *ALL contents* of the Download folder
Delete *ALL contents* of the EventCache folder
( You may need to show all files, folders, and system files to view the subfolders of SoftwareDistribution : http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html )
Close the window
Empty the Recycle Bin
Go to Start > Run > type these commands in, and click OK or press Enter after *each one*
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
Now type in
net start wuauserv
Click OK or press Enter
Try Windows Upate to see if the issue has been resolved.
