Wow, thanks for the prompt response Michel, i expected to wait at least a
week. I will take your advice and find out the sound card and look for a
driver. I tried rolling back the driver in device manager but this wasn't
possible. Not sure which sound card it was, i have a number of cd's lying
around, guess i can play with them as well.

If REALLY needed that is ONLY when your hardware does not funtion well take
the drivers from the manufacturers website.

In this case you can try to boot in safe mode and use system restore to a
restore point where the problem did not occur yet.

Or try rolling back on the driver in device manager.

Read the motherbord manual to see which sound card is used to determine the
driver if needed, normally you should have a cd rom on which the drivers for
the mainboard are to be found. If no manual was given with your pc go to the
website of the PC manufacturer.

not installed. No drivers to rollback. Restoring to an earlier point does

work. Volume and sound control is greyed out. Adding a new device finds

work.
Belarc Advisor finds nothing. My System Info finds nothing. My windows
audio
in computer management is set to automatic. My sound is up. I have all
the
newest and older drivers and tried them, but drivers will not work if XP
does
not recognize the hardware.

I remember reading somewhere that XP does something kernel-wise that
keeps
the hardware from being detected.

Is there any new advice out there? Help is much appreciated.
