MS has set up forums to handle Activation issues. STRONGLY suggest you give them some feedback and let them know about this issue:

BTW, the update is known as WGA Notification. Currently it is NOT a required update and unti it is, it will never reside on my system.

The first time I noticed this was with a recent Defender update and when I checked my update history I found that every update after 2/22/2007 (the date of my install of KB 905474) had failed. I am running XP Pro with SP2. I would prefer not to have to do a System Restore so I would appreciate suggestions that help in resolving this problem. One thing, for sure, I will never touch a WGA update again and why the heck can't MS make those WGA updates capable of being uninstalled?.
