Sorry, but your educated guess is incorrect. I'm using XP Pro SP2.

I downloaded the file (Windows-KB890830-V1.26.exe) from the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=AD724AE0-E72D-4F54-9AB3-75B8EB148356&displaylang=en

And I've just checked that site and there is a new release listed - still
the same filename as above, but version R2B2 (whatever that means). Date is
13 February, 2007.

That's because [I'm just making an educated guess here] the OS is Vista.
The mrt.log posted was from XP Pro.
The huge file you describe would contain all the defintions for the MSRT.
The montly update to the *intalled* MSRT is smaller.

Open the mrt.log located in WINDOWS\Debug. Copy&paste the *last* entry in
the log into your next post, please.
