Just to be clear on this ... the update started to install, it failed, there was NO error message.
How did you determine that the update failed to install ?
Was this via Automatic Updates or from a visit to one of the update sites ?

Check the KB928090.log located in the WINDOWS directory (folder) for error messages/codes. Start at the bottom and work your way back towards the top ... OR, just post the entire log if it's not that big into your reply, please.
