Re: Location of update files

When I go to the link provide I get a message stating "Administrators only"
To install items from Windows Update, you must be logged on as an
administrator or a member of the Administrators group

There is only one user on my PC, me and I am an administrator. When I follow
the instructions the only user in the dropdown list is me. When I select
that option with no password I get an error message ..blank passwords not
allowed... I have not set any passwords up so I cannot enter any. The other
link to kb/323166 the Method 1 takes me to the same web site with the same
message. Method 2 talks about Click Personalize Windows Update. I cannot see
this link on this page.

When I go to the normal windows update web site
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
and click on use administrator options I get to the same page as your link
with the same administrators option.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Sean

Nope, not possible to reuse automatic updates.
They are stored temporarily in the softwaredistribution folder under
windows and then are
deleted in approximately 10 days.

Have you got a friend that can download them for you?

Manually download individual updates from the Catalog and save to be
installed later.
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp

Click Add button for each update you want to download. Once you have what
you want, Click
the "Go To Download Basket" link. Type in or browse to the location where
you want the
updates saved to and then Click the "Download Now" button.
Once downloaded, you can then burn them to CD.

How to download updates and drivers from the Windows Update Catalog or
from the Microsoft
Update Catalog
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/323166

If not, at least you can back these ones up onto CD in case you ever need
them again.

| Hi,
|
| 3 months ago I had to format my HDD and reinstall windows. Along with
that
| cam reinstalling all the updates. This used up my internet bandwidth
| allocation for the month in 1 day. My HDD is about to fail and I was
hoping
| that I could find the downloaded files, back them up and restore them
after
| reinstalling windows to save having download them again.
|
| Does anyone know if this is possible and is so whee I may find these
files.
|
| Thanking you in anticipation.
