I don't think that the log messages you are showing us support this
interpretation of what you may be seeing.


I also noticed I get the following error0x8024502d - however suggestions on
erros provided by ms site do not help.

makes it look like a problem with a proxy in which case it would be even
less likely that you would have had a successful download.


The meaning of the code also suggests that the download phase
is the problem area:

How about picking one update that you are having trouble "installing",
download it manually from the update catalog and then try to install
it manually. If that doesn't work we could then take a look at the
update's install log.
