Re: Installing ActiveX control

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

If Internet Explorer default settings are on, you'll see the Information Bar:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/web/sp2_infobar.mspx

This article explains how to install the WU activex controls manually if required -
The Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site do not scan for updates
when you repair a failed installation of Windows XP Service Pack 2 or of Windows XP
Service Pack 1

| I'm running Windows XP (w/SP2) and IE 7. When I go to the site to update
| windows, (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en )
| It tells me I need ActiveX controls to view the web site. It tells me I
| should:
| "1. Right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar. It's located just
| below the address bar."
| Problem: The information bar is not visible.
|
| It also says: "Note: If the Information Bar doesn't appear, or if you've
| installed the control but still can't use the website, take these steps to
| solve the problem. "
|
| I do that and it takes me to a search screen. Not much help.
|
| How in the world can I install ActiveX control so it works on this web site.
| Otherwise, I can't check for updates to Windows XP.
