Hello,
KB items are usually critical and security updates for Windows OS and
applications.
The other items ie: .net etc. in themseleves are applications, may have
security updates listed for the application after installing.
Such as hot fix for .net1.1 KB886903 and security updates for .net2.0
KB917283, KB922770 listed on a updated WindowsXP SP2 Home unit.
The applications IE7 etc. take a little work for installation. The updates -
hotfixes for these applications should be installed after the application.
The security updates, some will need a reboot, you maybe able to install all
KB items and then reboot.
Then install the applications and go back to the update site to check if
these need updates.
I know of no reason not to install all the KB items as you stated. Make sure
you reboot the system after installing.
take care.

Beamish,.
Using a fresh install of XP Pro on a system, I sat down and listed all the
KB numbers for the security update and software update. There were some that
I couldn't find by their KB numbers. Some of them don't have KB numbers such
as IE7, WMP 11, and .NET. I have IE7 and WMP11 downloaded but I couldn't find
the .NET update.
Should all of these updates that I am downloading, have to be installed in
certain order or it doesn't matter? I was thinking about creating a batch
file and run them all. Any suggestions?

Hello, If the unit you use for downloading has what "Microsoft" considers a
legal OS. Then I believe you should be able to download, as I download other
items not security related.
I do not use Microsoft Office Suite.
Seems a little convoluted but it has saved me hours.
Once you install the latest updates, then it becomes a matter of saving the
new ones as they are issued.
From the information I have read it may be awhile for a SP3 issue.
take care.

Beamish,
Thanks for the information. I think I understand the process and I will give
it a try. Will the same process apply to Software Update, Hardware update,
and Office update?

I have to do a fresh install of Windows XP Pro and Office on couple ofHello,
systems. These systems only have dial-up connection and performing all the
updates will take numerous hours over dial-up. Is there a way I can download
the updates and put them on a CD? I can then use the CD to perform all the
updates.
This is what I do to keep copies of "Security Updates".
I use the computer that needs the updates to aquire a list of needed updates
from the Microsoft Update Site.
Write the KB numbers for each computer as there may be different updates
needed.
Then go to Microsoft Download Center "using a unit connected by broadband"
and click on Windows Security and Updates link. Then type in each KB number
and download each update to a folder listed for each unit.
Remove the "setup.exe" files for each KB item and save to another folder
then delete the first folder.
Then you can burn a cd for each unit, install all the updates and save the
cd's.
I have two units same setup, this way I only download a file once and keep a
cd as a backup.
I understand there is the ability to slipstream these updates, search the
Microsoft site for this information.
take care.
