Re: Update download requirements

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

First, NEVER disable the firewall unless you have another firewall such as a hardware firewall already active.

As for anti virus, etc, generally I leave mine on.
However if I have a problem, I disable all unnecessary programs.
Anti virus, download accelerators, configuration issues with 3rd party firewalls etc. are some of the main causes of Windows update errors.

If you disable important programs such as anti virus, be sure to enable them after an update.
If you reboot, the disabled programs are usually enabled after boot.

I have Windows XP Pro SP2 and have always disabled my antivirus and firewall
to do the update downloads and installations. Do I need to continue doing
that or is it safe to leave them running during downloading updates?
