David,
have a look at one of my reply for error 0x80040111 ( one of my reply for
error 0x80040111 was an error from my part because I was new to the
Discussion Group but the second reply for Marlon was good). I had a problem
identical to yours om my wife's computer and the error number was on the
Windows updates files that failed to install. The link included in my reply
to Marlon is for a French system (my wife's computer) and you must find a
similar site to download the file MSXML.DLL for your country, execute the
file to install it on jour system; I had receive this information from
Microsoft help system and it worked fine for my wife's computer (6 priority
updates were waiting to install and it worked fine).
Excuse my english, I am a French Canadian from Province of Québec in Canada.
I was so happy to solve the problem that I decided to have a look into other
message posted on the site. I hope this will help you, bye, bye!!! Pierre

When I go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com, I get the standard update page
asking me if I want to do "Express" or "Custom". I can select either. The
next screen says:
"Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed
on you computer. To continue: 1) Register or reinstall the file for me now.
-or- 2) Let me read about ..."
I've selected both. (2) is worthles. (1) does a "Checking for the latest
..." does a bit of downloading and installing and then returns me to the
"Keep your computer up to date" screen offering either an express or custom
update process.
This returns me to the same screen as described above saying "Files required
to use Windows Update are no longer registered ..."
MS Windows Update Support has been "unhelp". Fujitsu says that they have
never heard of this (and it was escalated).
MS Windows Update Support had me:
2. Click Start, click Run, type: cmd and press Enter.then
3. Input the following commands and press Enter after each line.
sfc /purgecache
sfc /scannow
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. Click the Connections tab, click LAN Settings, and then click Advance.
4. Delete any entry in the Exceptions section.
Exceptions does not exist on my machine, tough.
then
Download and reinstall the version 5 of the Windows Update Active X Controls<http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/SelfUpdate/AU/x86/XP/en/wusetup.cab>
at the following link:
then
I have just recevied you e-mail about when you click on link both cat and inf file
comes up and goes through and then goes away reason it did that was it
installed now go try Windows Udates and See what happens now plz.
No changes. Now MS Windows Update Support ignore me.
Can someone please help?
