Re: 0x643 in update 925672

Hi,

I have had this same problem, reading through this post has been very
helpful,l although I did have a little more to do to reach a solution.

Within the registry I found that none of these keys had permissions set for
SYSTEM

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.XSLTemplate.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.XMLSchemaCache.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.XMLHTTP.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.SAXXMLReader.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.SAXAttributes.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.MXXMLWriter.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.MXNamespaceManager.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.DSOControl.4.0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0

Once I set the permissions on all of the keys on full control fro SYSTEM the
update installed no problem.

Thanks for your help.

Conor.

Alan,

See if there is a CLSID folder under this key -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.DSOControl.4.0

If so, click the plus sign next to it and then click the CLSID folder,
in the right frame, double click on
(Default)
The Value data should be
{88D969C4-F192-11D4-A65F-0040963251E5}

IF there is no Msxml2.DSOControl.4.0 or no CLSID subfolder, then see if
the entire MSXML 4 SP2 package will install now.
If it does, then apply the update.

IF there is a Msxml2.DSOControl.4.0 folder with no CLSID subfolder,
we'll create this subkey with a reg file using the Value data from one
of my systems. I'll check the other OS' to see if the Value data is
universal or system specific.

Thanks mowgreen,
Took me a while to get into safemode.. (F8 seemed to put me in boot mode
first) Anyway I ran regedit.
However when I located the Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0 folder I got 'error while
opening key' message.

There did not seem to be a CLSID directory -- I noticed all the other
Msxml2.DOMDocument folders did have a CLSID directory.

I wondered whether to try to delete Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0 folder & try from
scratch, but thought I'd check first.

Cheers Alan

Is XP HE or Pro installed ? In either case, boot to Safe Mode and log on
as Administrator.
Then go to Start > Run and type in

regedit

Click OK

Click the plus sign next to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Click the plus sign next to SOFTWARE, then the one next to Classes
Scroll all the way down to
Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0

Click the plus sign next to it
Right click the CLSID folder
These Permissions need to be present for the MSXML package to install
Click on what's listed below, then put a check in the applicable boxes -

Administrators -
Full Control
Read

System -
Full Control
Read

Click Apply, OK
Click the minus signs all the way back to My Computer
Close the Registry editor
Restart the system

Did you download the update, too? If so, see if that will install now
*instead* of trying to install the entire MSXML 4 SP2 pacakge.

The cause of the update not installing is due to incorrect Permissions
set at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Msxml2.DOMDocument.4.0\CLSID

hi Mowgreen,
thanks for help -- followed your link &
downloaded msxml (5 mbytes - assume this is correct file?)
but when it ran I got this message

" Could not open key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Msxml2.DOM
Document.4.0\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient
access to that key, or contact your support personnel"

it then closed down. I searched disks for CLSID but only found
files like verCLSID in WiNDOWS/system32.

Not sure what this means... ?

Cheers alan

Download, save, close the browser, and then install MSXML 4.0 SP2 -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3144b72b-b4f2-46da-b4b6-c5d7485f2b42

Then download the update and save that :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=961f3c95-ec4e-4561-ab27-b3180e9139c5
Close the browser and then install it.
Did that resolve the issue ?
