Re: unable to get updates from windows update: 0x80072EE2

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

A search on the error code at Google Groups gets this:
http://groups.google.com/groups?lnk=hpsg&hl=en&q=0x80072EE2
What I find is make sure your Hosts file is pure, and write protect it.
Also, delete all cookies. You may be able to find more there.

Since you tried WU directly, it may not be a problem with WSUS.

Hi All,

I recently installed wsus sp 1 in one of the servers with windows 2003. Its
unable to get the updates from the windowsupdate site.

Synchronisation failed: There was an error communicating with the upstream
server. Please check your update source and proxy server settings on the

WSUS should be communicating directly with windows update page directly and
i dont have a proxy server.

I went to the windows update website and when i tried to download new
updates, there was an error: Error number: 0x80072EE2 half way through while
Checking for the latest updates for your computer... process

I have added all the recommanded urls in the trusted site. But, the problem
still persists.

I dont think its firewall that is causing the problem as i am able to
download the updates in other systems that are running on XP pro sp2 and
windows 2000 sp4 and the port 443 and 80 are open.

I am unable to download new updates/patches from both servers that run on
windows 2003 SP1 standard edition and web edition respectively.

I feel that it must be some or one of the default configurations in windows
2003 that is causing the problem.

I hope someone please help me to resolve it so that i am able to get my
servers updated with latest patch and able to run WSUS.

Thanks!

With Regards,

Suguna
