RE: windows xp servicepack 2

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

TaurArian,

Thanks for the many helpful links. Will research them over the next couple
of days. Friday is "D" day for me...may have to continue the festivities into
Saturday if all does not go well.

Your tips seem to be right on target. Can't thank you enough.

Log onto the computer via the built in administrator account (in Win XP Home
that's in safe mode) and then access the user accounts and make the necessary
alterations.

TaurArian,

I also am having difficulty getting SP2 to install...getting an error
message that says "Access Denied" and the installation gets rolled back. I
also noticed that I cannot do a "Ctrl-Alt-Del" maneuver...get an error
message that says "Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator".

The pc in question belongs to a client who used someone else (prior to my
coming on the scene this week) for maintenance issues. My client told me
yesterday (after the fact, of course) that his computer used to have two
admin user accounts and that my predecessor deleted one of them...which was
probably the "main" administrator account. My intuition tells me that the one
and only remaining admin account does not have full admin priviledges.
Assuming my crude analogy is correct, any suggestions as to how to update or
reset this admin account so that it has full admin priviledges? Any info you
could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thnx, Mark

If the above doesn't help, perhaps a little bit more detailed information as
to what the problem is.
