Re: Error Cod 0x80245003 - Update

This did not work either!!!!!!!! It sounds a lot like the other fixes that I
have tried. I deleted files, renamed them, removed activex, reinstalled it,
blah blah blah. Either I am doing more damage than good, or just spinning my
wheels following stupid suggestions. Really, if you had this error code and
had a solution ACTUALLY WORK, feel free to share. If you're just speculating
about possibilities, move to the back of the bus.

Update to old thread

Here are two possibilities namely the temporary folder of WU has become
corrupted/damaged and also the the ActiveX control has corrupted.

1. Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder (it will be recreated next time you visit
WU again)
You will lose your history but that's not important.

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder:
a. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this folder.

Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

2. How to remove a corrupted Active X control
Start IE and then click Tools/Internet Options
On the General Tab choose Settings under Temporary Internet Files
Then click on View Objects.
Right Click WuWebControl Class and choose remove
Right Click MuWebControl Class and choose remove

Now you need to delete the files from your hard drive, locate and delete the files
c:\windows\system32\wuweb.dll and c:\windows\system32\muweb.dll
Now revisit WU and redownload the activex controls

3. Finally if you want to force a detection cycle in AU then close IE
Now click on Start and select Run
Type wuauclt.exe /detectnow in the Open box and click OK
Try the WU again
