More info required, can you look at the windows update log for any errors.
How to view the Update log in Windows
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log
and then click OK.
Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the error code(s)
associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install. If appropriate copy
and paste the error codes into this thread so someone may be able to assist you. On
the other hand, you may be able to find the error code and other suggestions by
searching the Newsgroup.

Also check:
On the WU Website, select your history of updates - now click on failed update (red
mark) and see if there is an error code.
If there is an error code, write it down and post back or in the alternative, do a
search for the error code.

|I too have problems trying to install automatic updates. I run xp sp2, IE 6,
| on a Sony Vaio laptop. The downloads are there and available but no matter
| wether I try express or custom the downloads fail. No error messages are
| given and I am unable to install the neccessary upgrades and updates. I try
| installing them manually but find that a lot of the updates are not required
| by my system or, when I search for them on the Microsoft site can find no
| evidence of them actually existing. This is most frustrating trying to
| improve security on an operating system that clearly is not very secure.
|
| Any help to resolve this problem would be most appreciated.
|
| Many thanks
