okay so it must be my comp, i first used Mcfee anti virus when this happened, lost it after first restore, thinking it was mcfee that had done it ate start i then tried norton, and again it happend, then i had CA, lost all of that on third update, now Trend Micro, all as suggested in ms update, same problem with all, except the last one seamed to be worst of all, havig frozen before the login screen.
Uninstalling all those anti virus programs is a problem all of its own. If I were you, I would back up all important data to a external hard drive, reformat the hard drive and clean install Windows and install Avast or AVG as an AV and Zone Alarm or Kerio as a firewall, both free. If you decide to do this, after you install Windows, do a clean up/dskchk/defrag. Make sure that the XP firewall is enabled and go get all the Windows Updates. Do a clean up/dskchk/defrag again. Install all your programs and do a clean up/dskchk/defrag again. Install your firewall and anti virus LAST and be sure to disable the Windows firewall and go off line before installing them. Once installed, check for updates for both. THEN install your printer, scanner and camera. Before *anyone* says this is drastic, takes too much time, etc., just consider how much time the OP has spent -- to no avail -- trying to fix this problem.

Which antivirus program is installed ?
Had to download some programs again that i had just installed over net, as all settings were lost in the restore. They aren't on disk or backed up somewhere?
This update replaces one file, vgx.dll.
Suggest there's something amiss with your system, possibly the AV is interfering with the updates installation.
There's *nothing* buggy about this CRITICAL update.

Did you institute one of the many workarounds for the VML vulnerability?

install and I turn my comp off, when I reboot the next day my computer will
freeze as soon as it get into the main screen. I had to use system restore
to get my comp back online, and I lost some important data in the prosses.
This happened 3 times before I worked out that it was due to this update,
i've lost a lot of data and even some of my music files due to this.
Do yourself a favor people, for your own-sakes. Don't try to download the
KB925486 update, it's not worth the problems.
I hope microsoft fix this, or they'll have a lot of angery people to deal
with.
