My bad..
I misunderstood what you meant.
You meant click the start button then click run. I assumed (in haste to get
rid of that icon) that you just meant run (or "start") the program after
downloading. I looked at it, and realized there were 2 different commands.
since then, I did what was requested. I then had programs popping up after
restart. I lost my IE. I tried downloading IE7, but no luck. so I just did a
system restore. When the computer rebooted, there were about 6 or 7 updates
needing to be done. I unchecked the one for 920872, and just finished re
booting. I wanted to get this written before anything else happens.
Anyway, thanks!!

Hi!.
I must be the only non-geek here. I downloaded the update (step #1). I ran
it (step #2). Now where do I type the comand prompt?
At step 2, I agreed to the agreement, let the program check my computer and
it came back saying that my update was completed successfully.
I still have the icon, it still wants to update, and somehow I missed the
step 3. I am not a newbie, and not an expert either (duh). Are there some
steps in plain english?
thanks

Hi,
The most common cause for this is that you have an OEM PC on which the PC
manufacturer imaged the kmixer.sys, wdmaud.sys and splitter.sys drivers as
unsigned. Update.exe will treat these drivers as OEM drivers and not
overwrite them. Please try the following:
1. Download the update from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8c2e44a5-6a28-4888-93a7-6a6c6a87be7f&displaylang=en&Hash=7LFJN64
and save to their C: drive
2. Click on the Start/Run
3. Type C:\WindowsXP-KB920872-x86-ENU.exe /o and click OK
Thank you
Eric

I also had the problem where I installed the KB920872 Update and it shows
it
as succesfully installed but the security icon keeps reappearing after
reinstalling 6 times So I chose to hide the update and it solved the
problem
I hope it"s installed. I noticed that the download size of the update is 0
KB
0 Mins Does this mean there is nothing there?
