RE: Windows Update

After installing and running IE7 RC1 I started getting Error number:
0x80245003. WinUpdate still fails to run through IE7 RC1/Tools/Windows Update
but I have tried all of the previous fixes and none of them helped me UNTIL I
came across the following fix from MS Support:

(Of course all below are without quotation marks)

1. Click Start, click Run, type "cmd" in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. At the command prompt, type "net stop wuauserv" and then press ENTER.
3. Type "rmdir /s %windir%\softwaredistribution\wuredir" and then press
ENTER.
4. Type "rmdir /s %windir%\softwaredistribution\WebSetup" and then press
ENTER.
5. Type "net start wuauserv" and then press ENTER.
6. Use the Windows Update Web site again to install updates.

NOTE: On my PC it didn't like the "rmdir" command so I had to Manually
delete the directories, but....

This DID FIX my problem (as long as I went to WinUpdate v6 as always. Again,
if I use Tools/WinUpdate through IE7 I still get errors 0x80072F78. This is
an issue for IE7, I believe).

Try this:

1) open start, then click run. type in cmd (if u get an error go to
accessories and click command prompt its the same thing)
2) in the black box type in Net stop WuAuServ.
3) close the command prompt and click start, then run. type in %windir% and
hit enter. in the window that pops up find the SoftwareDistribution folder
and rename it to Sdold.
4) close that window and click start, run and type in cmd again (or
accessories, then command prompt). type in Net start WuAuServ.
5) close that window and try windows update again

(just to let u know i got this from a microsoft windows update support person)
