Re: wuauclt.exe Application Error

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Buried in this thread is the resolution, Robert :

i just called Dell to get them to help fix my problem. i'll tell you what they told me (which worked!)...hopefully it will work for you (it'll only work if you've downloaded mcafee virusscan).

in safe mode (press f8 a couple times during startup), go to start - programs - network associates - virusscan console - and disable buffer overflow protection

Shocking that McAfee could be the culprit, eh ? ;)

take a look in the event viewer for frther info.

what am i supposed to do with that? i see some errors in the viewer, but i
don't know what that's supposed to tell me.

Look in the Applications log. Do you see an entry related to the crash in it?
Any other entries about the same time?

I think that there is probably something suspect about that crash address.
It seems too high to be in the application itself and too low to be in one of
the common .dlls. That would be one reason to suspect interference from
third-party programs (malware or otherwise). Another possibility would be
failing hardware (e.g. memory module or bad sector for the page file.)

If you have a drwtsn32.log which reports the crash, a Stack Back Trace
for the crashing thread might provide more clues. Hint: look for the crash
address prefixed by FAULT -> (in a English version of Windows) and
then scroll ahead to find the associated Stack Back Trace.

thanks.

Good luck
