Check the activex control at:

I have upgraded 3 identical PCs from W2k Pro to XP Pro. Two of the
machines
had Microsoft update installed while the third was still using windows
update. The machine that had windows update is working great. The other
two
that had microsoft update now errors with 0x800A0046. These two machines,
after they were upgraded to XP, would go to the Windows update site even
if
you clicked on microsoft update. If you clicked on the link to upgrade to
MS
update the 'start now', and 'continue' would appear but I do not get
anything
to accept the active x control. The first time I did appear to work normal
and said I needed to upgrade some component and downloaded and installed
Windows installer and KB898461. After that MS or windows update does not
work. I've tried every KB article with this error from Userdata
persistence
to DCOM settings, policies, groups, resetting the security descriptor but
nothing has worked. It seems like some active X control is buggered. Is
there anyway to uninstall the active x portion of windows/ms update and be
reprompted to install the control? Again, it seems very strange it is
only
happening on machines that had microsoft update installed and then
upgraded
to XP.
