Re: Windows Update Failure; Tech Abaondoned Me

Some possibilities:-

0x8007041D - 2147023843 - ERROR_SERVICE_REQUEST_TIMEOUT
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely
fashion

1. You receive a "0x8007041D" error when you visit the Windows Update Web
site
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;902322

2. Retry WU later, sometimes the servers are under stress conditions.

Still no joy -

3. Check the Event Viewer to see if there is any specific errors regarding
services
Start/Run/Eventvwr.msc

4. Posted by: Mila -
<snip> In my case it was wups.dll in
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SoftwareDistribution\Setup\ServiceStartup\wups.dll\5.8.0.2469
folder. After removing this file, windowsupdate works great.

5. Some additional information on this error from Torgeir, Microsoft MVP

Hi,

If the things in TaurArian's post didn't apply or work, it is most likely a
COM+ issue.

First, verify that the "COM+ Event System" service is not disabled or not
functioning:

Press Start and Run, and then run this command:
services.msc

Locate the "COM+ Event System" entry, and double click on it. Startup type
should be set to "Manual", and if the service is not already running, press
the Start button to see if it starts successfully.

If the steps above where ok, see if the steps in this previous post fixes
the problem (applies to WinXP as well):

| Well,
|
| Using the Dial-A-Fix, presented a new/or different problem/error code.
|
| Using DAF allowed me to determine that the secedit.exe file was either
| corrupt/missing and I was able to download it and continue.
|
| After the DAF completed, I tried the WindowsUpdate again and this time I
| received the error code 0x8007041D. This was the first time I received a
| different error code from the 0x80070005.
|
| I searched for fixes and it seems that there is a spyware program running?
I
| searched for the software programs named and did not find any. I have the
| AOL Security installed, but the spyware and virus protection is set on
| disable( has been since I have been trying to fix the WindowsUpdate).
|
| I also used the Microsoft Malicious Software removal tool and it found no
| programs to remove.
|
| So I am unsure if this is worse because I now have a second problem/error
| code, or is a step forward because the first problem/error code has now
| changed to a second error code?
|
| As always thanks for your suggestions,
|
| Sturbo.
