How to troubleshoot Windows Update or Microsoft Update when you are repeatedly offered an update
This article describes how to troubleshoot Windows Update or Microsoft Update when you are repeatedly offered an update. This article also describes how to troubleshoot the problem when Automatic Updates repeatedly downloads and installs the same update.
Thank you. I was hopeful the supplied link would have the answer but it focuses on when one repeatedly gets the update offer where either it failed to install or did install. I want to stop the offers for the update that I have elected *not* to install. Therefore I do not have a log listing for KB890830 in my /WINNT folder.
On the Windows Update page, KB890830 is now shown pending and as hidden update if I restore hidden update. Both instances are the latest July 06 patch. So unless you have any other suggestions I must infer that the MSRT is not really optional.

Take care,
