When trying to access Windows Update I get the error 0x80070005. "The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view."

I searched all through the Update Newsgroup discussion postings and google, and tried all the fixes I could find.

I then contacted Microsoft Online Assisted Support, after three weeks and being switched to another tech halfway through nothing has worked. The last email the tech said to use the XP disc and do the recovery feature, and still no change. I emailed him back that the repair did not change anything and he has not responded back, that was about a week ago.

Between the techs suggestions and the newsgroups suggestions it seems the Techs know less? The Newsgroup seems more knowledgable.

If anyone can think of something I might try I would appreciate it.
Some things I have tried ( I can't remeber them all)
I searched for hidden firewalls, looked for the NOD file, tried the regsvr updates, edited user permissions, deleted suggested keys from the HKey registry, downloaded the Windows Update file and reinstalled it, theres some others I can't remember now.

One last thing the error shows up after registering the Update software. When I go to the update page, it says "Get the latest Windows Update software" After clicking install, it shows copying files then registering and when it gets to 100% it will display the error.

I assume it is a permission error on my desktop, but I am at a loss as to where to go next? Any suggestions?
