Re: issues with update KB914784

hi thanks for the reply but i never install udates in safe mode, (who would)
i simply went throught the rigrous process of removing the new updates to
determine which one was causing the error. And low and behold it was the
kernal..
so i had to use safe mode to remove it my pc would not boot at all normaly,
i have tuned off automatic updates as this KB914784 is unstable to my system
and caused it to crash and have this error BSD (blue Screen of Death )etc.
One thing i did notice is that it also removed my SATA promise fastTrak 378
drivers how rude! lol
So I have since installled all the updates in full mode exept (KB914784) and
system is now stable, but if i install the one in question then i get that
issue and application event log reports errorID:8211 source: VSS "Volume
Shadow Copy Service error: Writer with name WMI Writer and ID
{a6ad56c2-b509-4e6c-bb19-49d8f43532f0} attempted to subscribe in safe mode."

the only other error i get at the time is in the system Event log that one
is Event ID:1060 Source:Application Popup
"\SystemRoot\SysWow64\Drivers\GEARAspiWDM.sys has been blocked from loading
due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor
for a compatible version of the driver." thing is I have done a search and it
points to gear software which I dont use www.gearsoftware.com i have located
the the "GEARAspiWDM.sys" its in a folder on my desk top that i need to burn
off not an application installed on my PC Wierd!

i also get another one called system event ID: 1060 source: Application
Popup
"\SystemRoot\SysWow64\Drivers\vulfnth.sys has been blocked from loading due
to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for
a compatible version of the driver." after searching for this i find that its
a ps2 icon
i could not find this on my system anywhere..

these seem to be the ones that are logged in system and the application
event ID:8211 source: VSS seems to be where the crach happens

i hope this clears things up a little to save confusion...

hi there i am using win XP X64 edition and last night i updated all
the patches all went fine this morning i booted up and my pc would
not boot i managed to get in to safe mode and delete all updates and
then install one by one to see which one causes the issue (KB914784)
when i checked the logs in event manager i got this Event ID: 8211
Scource VSS "Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Writer with name WMI
Writer and ID {a6ad56c2-b509-4e6c-bb19-49d8f43532f0} attempted to
subscribe in safe mode."

You can't expect all updates to install in Safe Mode: some of them need the
full services of Windows. If you are going to install them one-by-one, then
do so in normal full Windows.
