Re: WGA KB905474

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Actually the links MowGreen gave are specifically for WGA issues.
This "place" is for Windows Update issues.
While your issue is a Windows Update issue, it is more specifically a WGA
issue.
Those forums suggested by MowGreen are moderated by Microsoft.

Also "The update comes from you, my OS comes from you."
Not true, the update and OS come from Microsoft.
MowGreen is not Microsoft and does not work for Microsoft.
In fact these newsgroups are not officially monitored by Microsoft.
If you see Microsoft here, they are here on your own time.

So, lets see here. I came here because I computer hangs up while
installing
this Windows Genuine Advantage thing, KB905474. I have tried several
different things that have been recommended to me on this newsgroup, but
to
no gain as the thing still hangs up when I try to install it. Now you want
me
to go elsewhere, none of the site's that you recommend seem to have
anything
to do with my issue. I am a bit confused, are you folks going to help me
to
get this thing installed or not. I have spent considerable time to get
this
update installed and it keeps doing the same thing. The update comes from
you, my OS comes from you.
Perhaps there is someone else who is able to come here and help. This
seems
to be the appropriate place.

Well, Thanks Robin. I went to the website, let it run it's little
thing.
Informed me that some security (microsoft) features were set in such a
manner
that the genuine whateveritis would not work. Changed the settings, ran
the
thing. Cool.

Now just like Alias, I went to the other site you offered up and found
there
to be no advantage or disadvantage for me at all in regards to this
software.
So what do us good guy's who bought their stuff get??? After all we are
putting the software on our computers, using our resources to run it,
going
through hastles to get it to install and work just so microsoft can see
if it
thinks the software is valid or not.
Ol, Bill has lots of dough, a hat or coffee cup or hummer would be
nice.

No Third party anti malware software.

OK - can you send your browser to the WGA diagnostic site at
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/
and follow through the diagnostic steps, then click "Validate
Windows".

Does that clear the problem up?

What is the benifit of this update???

If Microsoft has a problem with people stealing/counterfeiting/selling
their software, they should call the FBI and/or the police. There is no
reason why a paying customer should have to be a part of this anti
piracy campaign of Microsoft, all the golden words (FUD) on that web
site you posted notwithstanding. This software doesn't benefit the end
user one iota. All it does is p!ss people off and ruin MS' reputation.
If someone wants to know if their software is genuine, they can send it
to their nearest MS office for inspection. In the meantime, requiring
paying customers to go after the thieves is unreasonable. What's next,
all CD and DVD buyers have to help catch the CD and DVD pirates? If I
find out my Levis aren't genuine, do I lose my license to wear them?
