I'm trying to update a Windows 2000 professional PC and getting the same
message. We are using an ISA server and are behind a firewall. I am able to
udpate all the PCs but this one. Why can't I update this one PC when I can
update every other PC (we have over 100)?

Dear Rhonda,
That security bulletin encourages the installation of KB899753.
I installed that, and web browsing essentially stopped working for me! Ouch!
I uninstalled that KB so I could get web browsing working again!

For example, trying to visit www.microsoft.com results in:
The page cannot be displayed
It might be a coincidence. That same symptom has been attributed
to the Google toolbar (or perhaps other third-party toolbars).
If you have that product you could try uninstalling it and see if your symptoms
change and if the patch you removed could then be reinstalled.
Are you disallowing anonymous logon through your proxy?
There are some workarounds for getting updates documented here:
<title>You cannot download updates when you access the Windows Update
Web site from a Windows XP-based computer that is behind a firewall
or a proxy server</title>

See also KB885819 which that page links to.
